  • Obesity is associated with cardiovascular diseases, Type II diabetes, hypertension, certain cancers, and sleep apnea.

  • The National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) reported that 31.1% of men and 33.2% of women are obese.

  • 28.0% of men and 28.9% of women of those aged 20 - 39 years are obese.

  • Obesity is greater in Mexican-Americans and non-Hispanic blacks than whites.

  • 60% of women and 33% of men in college would like to lose weight.

  • Since the majority of UIUC students are 20 - 39 years old, prevention and treatment of obesity is a public health priority on campus.  The McKinley Weight Management Program will help you begin.

  • Phase 1 - Gain general nutrition and physical activity knowledge through this online course.

  • Phase 2 - Meet with an expert to help you modify your lifestyle.
