Discovery Group
Discovery or Recovery? That is the question.
The Discovery Group is a psychodynamic therapy group
targeted for clients who are in the pre-contemplation phase related to
substance use, abuse, or dependence. These clients have already been
assessed as having a significant use pattern. It is NOT a
prerequisite of the group to want to stop using. The group goal is
to establish a clean, sober, and safe environment to begin exploring new
coping options and challenging old ideas about using substances.
Group meeting times and location
The group will meet weekly on Mondays from 2:00 to 3:30
p.m. or Thursdays from 3:00 to 4:30 p.m. The venue will be announced prior
to the meeting. This group is on-going, and clients are welcome to
participate as long as they find it useful. Scheduled breaks will be
determined by group members. The maximum number of group members is
twelve. The group will not close and new members are welcome to join the
group at any time unless the group is full.
Criteria for group information
-
The student acknowledges that substance use has played a role in his/her life.
-
The student commits to participate in the group for at least three consecutive sessions
and is available during designated group time.
-
The student will commit to not using any substance before group.
