Nutrition

The Nutrition Education Program at McKinley Health Center provides in-house and outreach services for students on the UIUC campus.  Many of the nutrition services provided on campus are joint programs with the Sports Nutrition Program at SportWell Center.  The goal of the nutrition program is to provide education on a variety of nutrition topics, to encourage healthy eating behaviors and to facilitate understanding the benefits of healthy eating.

If you are looking for a program you don't see here, please call and we can discuss your needs.  For a nutrition program presented by McKinley or SportWell nutritionists, call 333-2714 for McKinley or 244-0261 for SportWell Center.

 Individual Nutrition Counseling

UIUC students meet one-on-one with a registered dietitian who is a professional staff member at McKinley or SportWell.  Nutrition concerns of any kind may be addressed in a half-hour session.  Some topics may include: general healthy eating, vegetarian eating, preventing heart disease, diabetes, sports nutrition, disordered eating behavior, herbs and supplements.

 Class Presentations

One of McKinley's registered dietitians or nutrition graduate students can speak to your academic class on the nutrition topic of your choice.

 Nutrition  Walk-in Services

Get your sports nutrition or general nutrition questions answered in these brief consultations.  No appointment is required, but space is limited to the first six participants on a first-come, first-served basis.  Walk-in sessions are not held during summer sessions.

  Peer Education Programs

Programs are presented in a Jeopardy game format, encouraging questions and discussion.  Emceed by upper-level dietetic students, the programs are interactive, fun and educational.  You can choose from a variety of nutrition topics - healthy eating, sports nutrition, weight management, herbs, preventive medicine, to name a few.
